STORY

The year is 2027.

Advances in genetics, robotics, information and biotechnologies are enabling those who can afford it to surgically replace healthy limbs with vastly superior mechanical ones. Those who can't, or who are morally opposed to the idea of "augmentation," find themselves in danger of being left behind. The result is a new societal divide that threatens to erupt into violence.

Adam Jensen, an ex-cop turned security troubleshooter for a Detroit-based biotechnology corporation, experiences this violence firsthand, when augmented mercenaries attack his company and murder its top scientists. Critically wounded during the assault, only the emergency implantation of military-grade augmentations saves his life.

Six months later, Jensen's company is attacked again -- this time by "pro-human purists" who claim to be against augmentation. Sent in to defeat them, Jensen discovers that the "purists" have been infiltrated by one of the augmented mercenaries. Obviously, something more is going on here! With his boss David Sarif's approval, Jensen begins to dig deeper.
